Still working on the tack boxes I started over Labor Day weekend.  The weekend job has now stretched out to a month.  Progress is steady but slow.  Today I made my first big mistake.  I was trying to speed things up and I cut the drawer fronts and backs for both top and bottom drawers in one cut.  I cut the hand hole on the front and the notches (they’re not rabbits, they’re not morteses, not sure what they are) for the drawer sides and did a test fit only to find that… (more…)

Rode the Ciocc to work again today. I was prepared for major rain since that’s what I went to sleep with but I totally lucked out. It was a nice, partly sunny ride into work with only slightly damp pavement. Kim called at 3 offering to come get me due to the down pour she was experiencing but I told her I was prepared and by the time I left at 4:45 to head back to the car, it was sunny again. (more…)

Ok, picture this…

You’re peacefully sleeping.  It’s 5:22.  You know it’s 5:22 because your wife just woke you up.  She says “I have a migraine, can you go tell Beth I cannot run?”  It was one of those spousal “rhetorical questions.”  She said it the same way she says “Jeff, the dog just threw up.”  I reacted the same way I always do.  I rolled out of bed, put on some cloths over my pajamas, grabbed a coat and headed out. 1987 Ciocc Columbus SL Tri-tubiRode my Ciocc to work today. It was interesting. It’s still a fast bike. It’s still too big for me by just a little. It’s still a pain to get everything dialed in with friction shifting. And it was a wonderful day for a ride. (more…)

Just as the sun came out this afternoon, Kim came home from riding her horse so I could ride my bike.  I wanted to get at least 18 miles in to crest over the 2K mark.  I had everything ready to go, jumped into shorts and my Singletrack jersey and headed out.  The girls noticed me heading out and I had to pass the 20 questions and hear all about the flying horses they were riding around the living room before I could head out. Kim ran the 8K run at Northwest Trek’s Run Wild today, I walked the 5K with the girls.  The day started at 5 am so both Kim and I could shower and eat breakfast.  We carried the girls from their beds to the car at 6:10 and headed out on the 60ish mile drive to the park.  Driving down the street we live on we were treated to “observations of a 4 yr old” (more…)

Rode my bike to work today for the second time.  This time I remembered the bike lock and didn’t have to carry my laptop since I left it at work the night before.  This time I forgot water bottles and to eat breakfast.  Not really a big deal to do a 12 mile ride without water but not how I generally ride. Got up at 5:30 this morning to get a ride in before Kim headed off to the barn to ride Rysin.  I hoped to head out at 6:00.  Wishful thinking.  I got down stairs to the kitchen to mix up my bottles for the ride and looked out the window.  Oh dear.  Total darkness.  A quick visit to weather.com told me sunrise wasn’t for another hour, and it was cloudy so it wasn’t going to be light any time before that. After sitting around smelling myself all day (I didn’t get complaints from my new office mates so I assume I wasn’t stinking up the place but I could smell it) it came time to ride back to the car.  I was both looking forward to this and not.  It was a fun ride in but with my over stuffed backpack my shoulders had been sore all day and I wasn’t looking forward to aggravating them with the ride home. After scoping out potential routes to the new office I had the perfect opportunity to ride into work today.  I took our youngest to preschool in Issaquah and rode straight up East Lake Samamish.  Basically a straight shot to the office, great shoulders, basically flat.  Only 12 miles so it didn’t take too much time.
