Got on the trainer this morning.  The girls were watching “Ben 10″ episodes on DVD so I watched while I rode.  I got on to ‘get a ride in’ and didn’t have a plan.  I did some ILT and some spin-ups but without a real plan.  Felt good to check mark the ride but I don’t think it really did much for my fitness.

Rode on the trainer for 90 minutes today. I got ‘Workouts - In a binder - for Indoor Cycling’ for Christmas and was flipping through it this morning when I stumbled across an endurance workout that it suggested doing while watching a movie. The book uses a “very short hand” notation to describe the workouts and I couldn’t quite make out the point but since I wanted to do a 90 minute workout and I needed to be able to entertain the girls too if they came by I choose “Curse of the Ware Rabbit” which has a running length of 1:22 (which I figured if I rode through the previews and credits I’d be over 90 minutes for sure). Did workout 1 of the pedaling technique workout right before dinner.  I had a bit of a breakthrough, and a new task master.  My 4 yr old was watching me and wanted me to follow along with the video, exactly.  Daddy, sit up.  Daddy, wipe your face with your towel.  Daddy, take a drink.  Luckily her attention span is sort and she soon tired of watching 3 guys and 2 girls ride stationary bike trainers. Rode the Fuso on the trainer again today. Did the Pedaling Strength workout 1 workout. 10 minute climbing simulation (biggest gear, 50-60 RPM) x 4 sets. Doing ten minute intervals leaves a lot of time to think about other things, and get board. They kept stressing proper form on the bike so I tried to concentrate on that. (more…)

Rode to the “Pedaling Technique” video again. I did workout 2 this time. It’s not different, just more sets. I think I recognize the pattern ;-). I was REALLY sore 3 days afterwards last time. We’ll see this time. I had an audience of my two girls for the last two sets of ‘isolated pedaling drills’. It doesn’t help much when the oldest asks, “Daddy, why is it making that clunk sound? The people on the video aren’t doing that.” (more…)

Got on the trainer this morning. It was a retro day - Fuso bike, toe-clips (no float - but cool real leather “Alfredo Binda” straps), Sidi shoes from 1988, and friction shifting (that’s another blog post). It was my first time on the Fuso and I’m happy with the fit (but maybe not the saddle). It was also my first time with the Pedaling Technique video I got for Christmas. As I sit here 12 hours later, I wonder to myself “are those pains in my knees due to the pedals and shoes?” (more…)
